Ellen and Harsha – Chicago Wedding at Michigan Lake
Ellen and Harsha’s Chicago wedding took place on a perfect sunny day, at Promontory Point, a beautiful lake house filled with light, right by Michigan Lake.
I arrived at Ellen’s mom’s house early in the morning, where all the ladies were getting their hair and makeup done. The mood was so relaxed, with all the family gathered in the kitchen sipping coffee and chatting. I jumped right into details (per usual) and was SO excited to see the highly coveted pink Seychelles satin bow shoes! No wonder these are always on backorder – they’re just gorgeous!
Now a couple of words about Ellen’s dress… where do I start?! She took a non-traditional route, and instead of a classic white gown chose a magical floral wedding dress by Jordan de Ruiter. I was in love with this whimsical and vintage-inspired piece was completed with a multi-layer tule pink skirt and looked oh-so-gorgeous! When the flowers by Larkspur arrived, I was absolutely stunned how everything came together – the colors and the textures and the feel… Talk about great taste!
After everyone was ready, it was time for the first look. It gets me every time – how a cool and confident man gets so nervous in anticipation of seeing his bride-to-be.
The ceremony was short and sweet with some traditional Hindu elements. The couple wrote their own vows and had their first kiss as a husband and wife which was accompanied by a big round of applause. Ellen and Harsha then invited everyone to join them for appetizers and drinks back to Ellen’s mom’s house.
We couldn’t miss the opportunity to take some quick shots next to the lake – it was windy, and both the veil and the dress moved oh so beautifully! Being a Chicago wedding photographer, I still can’t get enough of these views, ah! We were done with the portraits, and it was time for the guys to go back and cut the cake by Eat Hardbitten. Covered with real gold leaves and a myriad of flowers, it was such a sweet finale for this amazing day!
